THE VIEW FROM THE SHARD SHOWCASE

The View from the Shard approached SGH Events this time last year to help curate exclusive events that highlight the magnificent event space and breathtaking views from one of London’s most iconic landmarks.

Following the success of our first event in March, which featured a wine-tasting session with former England rugby international Kyran Bracken, we were excited to return and continue our collaboration with The Shard. This time, we took it to the next level with an exclusive VIP experience on the 69th floor.

Rugby Union legends Matt Dawson, Neil Back, and Ben Cohen joined us to share unforgettable stories from their journey to victory in the 2003 World Cup, including the iconic drop-goal finish in Australia.

Guests enjoyed the panoramic views from two of London's highest floors, while indulging in exquisite wine tastings courtesy of the Sporting Wine Club. This included selections from South African rugby legends Bismarck and Jannie du Plessis, and golfing icon Louis Oosthuizen. Founded by ex-England rugby international Simon Halliday, the Sporting Wine Club collaborates with world-renowned winemakers, each with inspiring sporting stories.

For those who prefer a non-alcoholic option, Wild Idol were there to offer their vibrant, naturally alcohol-free sparkling wine alternative.

The drinks were complemented by artisan cheeses and chutneys from Cheshire Cheeses, curated by Rachel, adding a delicious touch to the evening. To add a touch of ambiance, guests enjoyed live saxophone music and a DJ throughout the evening.

The event aims to raise funds for Champions 2003, a charity dedicated to supporting former rugby players transitioning back into civilian life after their professional careers end. A charity auction featured iconic memorabilia, including a limited-edition signed 2003 World Cup squad shirt, a Geoff Hurst ball, a signed Pele shirt, and more. Additionally, attendees had the opportunity to purchase the new Champions 2003 replica shirts. The total funds raised exceeded £4,700.

For those eager to showcase their sporting skills, Scottsdale Golf offered a golf simulator with a unique "nearest the pin" competition.

The evening was an unforgettable night, reminiscing on and celebrating iconic sporting heroes and the moments they create, whilst acknowledging and understanding the profound challenges athletes face beyond their time on the field. Against the breathtaking backdrop of London's skyline from The View from The Shard, the event brought together a community of supporters united by a shared love for rugby and a commitment to making a difference. As the night concluded, the resounding message was clear: the legacy of champions extends far beyond their victories, inspiring action to support their well-being and future.
